Concentration Camp

Hello CHADD,

I am in dire need of your help.  I have heard that you will be able to advise me.  I believe my son, JaMarcus RayShawn, has a critical case of ADD.  He has trouble keeping attention or following directions.  As a result he is constantly following behind in his schoolwork.  Therefore, I would like to send him to a concentration camp and I was informed that German ones typically have the best results.  I have heard that the treatment he will receive are specifically designed to eliminate any lack of focus.  What are the top concentration camps you recommend?

While I fear he will cry and beg not to be sent away from his family (and it will be very hard on me as well), it is important that he be treated.  I fear his ADD is not only detrimental to his present, but also his future.  He performed very poorly in school this semester.

This is just like the movie Heavyweights, except for ADD kids instead of fat kids.  Please give me any helpful information possible on concentration camps to send JaMarcus RayShawn.

Thank you in advance,
Sasha

Sasha,

First of all, I take personal offense to the Concentration Camp reference!!!

If you have any questions in the future about ADD/HD, please contact your family doctor for help.

Judy,

I am sorry.  I forgot in the political correctness of today's society, concentration camps are now referred to as Attention Rehabilitation Centers or ARC.  I am under a lot of stress at work and I have been limited on time since The Bachelor started (it is a 2 hour show).  I sincerely apologize, but nevertheless, I would prefer your recommendations.  I have already gotten JaMarcus (we have dropped the RayShawn until his concentration levels have increased.  It is a relatively long name for a young child) a passport so he will be able to freely travel overseas.

If you could be so kind as to inform me of you recommendations as soon as possible.  Let me know if you need any additional information.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you,
Sasha

I don't know where to refer you as I have no idea where you live.  Please contact CHADD.org for future help.

Judy,

I live in Binghamton, but I am not looking for just a local concentration camp.  I am looking for the best concentration camp in the world to send JaMarcus, and I was told these are located in Germany.  I was informed that you would have information to give me about these camps.  I was told that the doctors at these camps eliminated the problem the majority of the time which is what appealed to me.

Please let me know if you will be able to help me.  Again, I am just looking for ARC recommendations and was told you could provide me with information.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you,
Sasha

Dear Sasha,

As you can see, your email conversation with the coordinator of the local CHADD group in Binghamton, NY has been forwarded to us here at CHADD and the National Resource Center on ADHD.

If you are looking for resources in order to help you deal with your child’s ADHD, please visit our web site atwww.help4adhd.org or contact us by phone at the toll-free number below to speak with one of our health information specialists.  If you have not already done so, please also be sure to follow the advice already given and discuss your child’s needs for ADHD treatment with his pediatrician.

Just to reinforce what has already been said, the use of the term “concentration  camp” is completely incorrect (and inappropriate) and no legitimate treatment center, hospital, or camp which provides interventions for the diagnosis or treatment of ADHD would refer to itself with this term.

Thank you and best wishes.

Tim MacGeorge
